Summer in NYC

It’s been quite a while since my last post. Sorry. Life has been forever busy, but I’m hoping to get back on track. As you may know, I am a city girl at heart and I visit NYC as often as I can–which is typically every month.

August in New York is skin-meltingly hot, but I never care about the heat. I’m an August birthday girl and I figure if I’m sweating, so is everyone else. But you New Yorkers who wear jeans when it’s 90+ outside–I applaud you. And if you wouldn’t mind sharing your secret to staying cool, that’d be great. That is, unless you’re hiding an icepack in your pants. Soooo not doing that!

Sightseeing is always my favorite past time, so going to new places while visiting my writer friends, we always try to plan something new. This time, we went to family movie night in Hudson Park. It was absolutely beautiful outside; what with the breeze off the river and all. And believe it or not, I had never seen the movie Hook before. I was thrilled to watch a great movie, spend time with friends, and just chill (although by the end my butt was sound asleep from sitting on turf).

A lazy Friday aside, I spent the rest of the weekend ISO my Grumpy’s family home (totally in a sketchwad area of Brooklyn), eating at a fabulous cafe named Fabiane’s Cafe & Pastry, touring Williamsburg, and writing in a cute little coffee shop in Harlem, named The Chipped Cup. Writing 1105 words while sitting across from my CP was amazing. I’m hoping that this story turns out to be just as amazing.

I’ve posted some of my favorite lines from Violet the Monster Hunter on Tumblr and Facebook, along with some pics of who I’d cast as the characters. The plan for now is to finish by the end of September, but we’ll see. For now I’ll leave you with a little banter between Violet and James…

“Aw! Well, there’s no award for winning or losing tonight. This is supposed to be a fun game to pass the time until our food is ready.”

He winks at me and says, “If nothing else, I hope to be able to king you.”

“I see you’re back to sex and porn being the only thing on you mind.”
